Custom Headstall Options
Our custom headstalls are all made-to-measure and tailored to your liking.
These headstalls are designed for maximum comfort for our horses, with a minimalist basic design meant to keep buckles and leather away from the eyes. It keeps hardware and mobile parts off the TMJ and away from the eyebrows. The browband is measured and cut to your horse’s face to provide the best stabilization and comfort. The browband should never be high enough to pinch the ears, or low enough to disturb the TMJ. It shouldn’t be too tight or too loose either.
All measurements are used to make something that won’t hurt or harm your horse. When your horse isn’t being bothered by his tack, he can focus on you and improve your performance as a team!
Base Price
$150
Price includes buckles & hardware in the same fashion as the picture to the right. This price reflects what the headstall to the right would look like. Prices are dependent on your choices.
Measurements
Measurements are done mostly in-person. We can discuss measurements over the phone if in-person is not an option. Note: Measurements over the phone, through pictures, or measurements done incorrectly can lead to inaccuracies and miscommunication. I can not guarantee an exact fit without seeing your horse and measuring myself.
Style
The first thing to be decided is what style of headstall are you looking for? A roughout headstall like the one pictured, is a more affordable option while keeping simplicity and style. It can be dyed, or two-tone like on the right for no extra price.
On the other hand, there are your typical headstalls which will be smooth and come lined. Stitching will help give some accent. This will usually be a little extra. It’s your choice of lining leather color.
Color
You can have almost any color you want. If Fiebing’s dyes has it, I can do it. I suggest looking through their website’s options. You are not limited to a single color on your headstall! You don’t have to have any dye at all, either.
Tooling
I can carve almost any design into your headstall’s cheek-pieces and browband (browband will be cut broader in the center of the forehead to accommodate). Price increases are dependent on what you’re wanting. Geometric designs will usually run about $50 extra. Floral and figure-carved designs will probably run $100+.
Designs
Buckles & Hardware
I can do any buckles and color of hardware you would like. Buckles are included in your base price. Custom buckles or buckles from silversmiths are going to be extra to you, or you need to provide them.
I use buckles from Conchos.com or Weaver Leather. If you would like different buckle styles, please say so. Chicago Screws come in multiple different finishes. You can view those here and also on Weaver’s website, here.
Conchos
I can add conchos to your headstall. The price is dependent on what you would like and how many. They can be either decorative, in multiple sizes, or replace the Chicago screws for your browband and replace the lace for your bit keeper. Conchos.com is a fantastic place for blingy options, or Weaver Leather for Jeremiah Watt conchos and other more western styles. You are not limited to just these websites either. Etsy is a good option or you can even send in your own.
Additions
Inlays
Inlay is a great way to add an accent to your headstall! This option is only available for lined headstalls. It is your choice of different colored and patterned hides or fabrics. Price is dependent on your choice of hide. A generalized inlay can run $50 extra or more.

Buckstitching
Buckstitching is another way to add an accent color to your headstall. You pick your color and what pieces you want the stitching on. I charge $1/inch of buckstitching.
Spots
Spots make for a really nice addition to any lined headstalls. I will not use spots on a headstall unless it it lined. When spots come loose they can cause a disaster if there is no protection. You can pick your finish and colors here.
